On April 28, the results of the 2020 American College Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling/ Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM) were announced. The team composed by Yang Jianing, Wang Bingxu, and Cao Shucheng, the junior students of Applied Mathematics (Sino-foreign Cooperation) from Faculty of Science (instructor: Zhu Linhe) won the Finalist Prize.
MCM / ICM is hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application. It is the only international mathematical modeling competition and the most influential mathematical modeling competition in the world. The content of the contest involves many fields such as economy, environment, resources, ecology and so on. The competition requires 3 undergraduate students as a group to complete all the work from model building, solution, verification to English paper writing on the specified problem within four days. Through this international competition, our students compete with outstanding students from world-renowned universities to stimulate their sense of competition and teamwork spirit, and improve their innovative ability and comprehensive quality. In 2020, the event attracted 20,948 teams from more than 20 countries and regions including Harvard University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, etc., with a total of 37 Outstanding Winners and 414 Finalist Prizes. 1404 Meritorious Winners, 5087 Honorable Mentions.
