On the morning of June 11, the 2021 "Famous Teachers' University Lectures" series of lectures co-sponsored by the School of Mathematical Sciences and the Institute of Applied System Analysis of Jiangsu University started on the cloud as scheduled. The guest speaker invited in this issue is Professor Wei Juncheng, a well-known Chinese mathematician, academician of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Canada, and National Chair Professor of the University of British Columbia in Canada. More than 130 teachers and students attended the lecture, including Professors Guixiang Xu and Haigang Li from Beijing Normal University, Professor Jun Yang from Guangzhou University, Professor Zhengping Wang from Wuhan University of Technology, Professor Yuxiang Li from Southeast University, Professor Feng Zhou from East China Normal University, Professor Jishan Fan from Nanjing Forestry University, Professor Wen Yang, Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Zhitao Zhang, Professor Danping Ding, Jun Wang and Professor Jiangbo Zhou from Jiangsu University.
Before the start of the lecture, Zhitao Zhang, Dean of the Academy of Mathematics of Jiangsu University briefly introduced Professor Juncheng Wei and presided over the lecture.
Professor Juncheng Wei gave a wonderful academic report on the topic of "Singularity formation in some geometric flows". He mainly explained two important research areas in the parabolic equation-the blasting problem of harmonic mapping flow and Yang-Mills heat flow. The report is mainly divided into two parts: The first part mainly introduces the basic concepts and related research background of the harmonic mapping flow, and expounds the mechanism of the solution explosion. At the same time, it introduces their latest results on the harmonic mapping flow and the main ideas and methods of the research——"Inner and outer gluing method" and Fredholm theory of parabolic equations. Furthermore, Professor Wei also shared their latest research results on the cracking of harmonic maps with free boundaries. The second part mainly introduces the basic concepts and related research results of Yang-Mills heat flow, expounds the relationship between Yang-Mills heat flow and harmonic mapping flow, and shares their latest research and main methods of thinking on Yang-Mills heat flow burst structure at infinite time.
In the report, Professor Wei Juncheng introduced cutting-edge mathematical problems in the field of nonlinear functionals and encouraged young scholars to strengthen their study and research, reflecting his profound mathematical skills, forward-looking mathematical vision and concern for the development of young domestic scholars. Professor Wei's research work aroused great interest in the parabolic heat flow problem among the teachers and students present. After the report, Professor Wei gave patient and detailed answers to the math problems that everyone was concerned about, and the teachers and students on the scene benefited a lot. Finally, Dean Zhang Zhitao made a concluding speech for the lecture.
The “Lecture Hall of Famous Teachers” brand activity established by our school aims to regularly invite well-known experts, academic authorities, and outstanding young scholars in the subject field to give lectures, continuously improve the mathematical literacy and scientific research and innovation capabilities of graduate students, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between scholars, and further enhance the academic influence of the subject.
